Mary was the seventh child of Martha Jefferson Randolph and Thomas Mann Randolph. She was born in 1803 at Edgehill, her parents’ plantation, but spent much of her time at Monticello.
Mary never married. With her sister, Cornelia, she opened a ladies school at Edgehill. She also helped nurse her nieces and nephews. After the Civil War, Mary lived with two of her sisters until she died in 1876.
