Make Monticello using vegetable stamps!

Duration: 30-60 min, 60-90 min
Overview

What do a potato, a carrot, and a piece of celery have to do with Jeffersonian architecture? A homemade set of vegetable stamps can quickly bring the West Front of Monticello, Jefferson’s architectural masterpiece and autobiography, to life. This easy activity can be done with fabric paint to create a t-shirt or tote bag, or with regular paint on any (parent or teacher approved!) surface. Cut the dome and pediment from one potato, cut lengthwise. Then the walls and windows can be cut from the scraps or from a second potato like French fries – something Jefferson would have appreciated!
