Description

In this 1818 letter, Thomas Jefferson recalls Benjamin Franklin’s contributions to the American Revolution to a colleague interested in writing its history. He rejects negative suggestions about Franklin’s character, celebrates his diplomatic skill in persuading the French to support the American cause, and recalls Franklin’s comforting words regarding the perils of drafting a public document, like the Declaration of Independence, by committee.
