This image is an American portrayal of the aftermath of the conflict between British Regulars and American militia in Lexington, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. En route to Concord to destroy an ammunition dump, British troops encountered Massachusetts militia men. Shots were fired; 8 Americans died. This was the proverbial “shot heard ’round the world.”
