Description

In this letter to state governors, George Washington outlines his vision for the country’s future. Washington stresses that although the war has been won, the coming of peace will test the country’s ability to become a strong nation. The letter argues for: a strong union; just compensation for the army; a militia to keep the peace; and a willingness to sacrifice for the common good.
