Description

In this letter, Jefferson shared with John Adams his idea to extract passages from the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—to produce his own Bible. He called the resulting work “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth.” Jefferson’s goal was to separate the teachings of Jesus from what he saw as corrupted text in the King James Bible.
