Description

In this 1815 letter to the governor of New Hampshire, Thomas Jefferson reflects back on events leading to the separation of the colonies from Great Britain. He notes that his 1774 pamphlet, “A Summary View of the Rights of British America,” argued that the King was the only bond linking the colonies and Britain. This was the first expression of such a radical view.
