Description

In his notes taken during the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, James Madison recorded the speeches of the delegates in attendance. In this excerpt from Madison’s notes of June 1, 1787, many delegates expressed concerns about the proposed executive branch of the new government. Charles Pinkney of South Carolina said that the office of president was too similar to that of the British monarch.
