This image depicts the Raleigh Tavern in Williamsburg. On several occasions during the 1760s and 1770s, members of the Virginia House of Burgesses reconvened there after their official meeting had been shut down by the royal governor. As representatives of the people, they planned strategies to resist the Townshend Acts and the Coercive Acts.
