This is a portrait of Roger Sherman, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention from Connecticut. Sherman proposed a compromise that gave each state an equal vote in the upper house of Congress. Eventually known as the “Connecticut Compromise” or “Great Compromise,” this solution helped the Convention resolve one of its most vexing issues.
