This miniature portrait of Thomas Jefferson painted by the American artist, John Trumbull, was made for Jefferson’s daughter, Martha. Although painted after the American Revolution while Jefferson was serving as the American ambassador to France, it portrays Jefferson as he might have looked in 1776 at age 33 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.
