This document is the Treaty of Alliance between the United States and France. Signed on February 6, 1778, Benjamin Franklin was largely responsible for negotiating its terms. Without France’s men, money, and naval support, it is unlikely that the U.S. would have been able to secure its independence from Great Britain.
