J’arrive, mon cher Cœur, en très bonne santé dans la maison d’un officier américain, et par le plus grand bonheur du monde un vaisseau français met à la voile. Jugez comme j’en suis aise. Je vais ce soir à Charles town, je vous y écrirai. Il n’y a point de nouvelles intéressantes. La campagne est ouverte, mais on ne se bat pas, très peu du moins. Les manières de ce monde-ci sont simples, honnêtes, et dignes en tout du pays où tout retentit du beau nom de liberté. Je comptais écrire à M. d’Ayen, mais c’est impossible. Adieu, adieu, mon cher Cœur. De Charles town, je me rendrai par terre à Philadelphie et à l’armée.
