This image, engraved by Paul Revere, depicts the landing of troops in Boston harbor in September 1768. After the protests against the Stamp Act and Townshend Act, British leaders came to believe that New Englanders were leading the opposition to British policies. Bostonians resented the presence of an army in their midst during peacetime.
