Perhaps Thomas Jefferson had such an image in mind when he explained that his ideal religious denomination would be called “Apiarians” because, like bees, they would “extract the honey from every sect.” Honey is noted for both its sweetness and its healing properties. Jefferson wanted toleration for all religious views.
