This image shows Federal Hall, located on Wall Street in New York City. In 1789, George Washington was inaugurated here as the first president of the United States. The first Federal Congress also met here. After a series of complex negotiations, Congress moved the nation’s capital to Philadelphia in 1790 and to Washington, D.C. in 1800.
