This document is the text of George Washington’s first inaugural address as president. Although Washington chose not to mention particular policies that his administration would pursue, he pledged to serve the interests of the entire country, protect the people’s rights, and execute the duties assigned to him by the U.S. Constitution to the best of his ability.
