Jefferson to Thomas B. Parker

Sea of Liberty  |  document
Description

In this letter, Thomas Jefferson revealed some of his key religious views. He believed in God, distrusted rigid orthodoxies, and favored free debate on religious issues. Jefferson especially disliked theologians like John Calvin and the New Englander Samuel Hopkinson, who stressed the evilness and weakness of humans, unless they had been saved.
