This image is a popular depiction of the American eagle. During the American Revolution, the eagle came to represent the American ideals of freedom and virtue. Like the image on the Great Seal, this eagle has an olive branch, a traditional symbol of peace, in one set of talons, and some arrows, a symbol of war, in the other.
