Rough Draft of Declaration of Independence (Audio)

Sea of Liberty  |  audio

Description

This is a dramatic reading of Jefferson’s rough draft of the Declaration of Independence which he presented to the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776. In the document’s powerful preamble, he stated that “all men” had certain “inalienable rights” and that government’s sole purpose was to protect those rights. Jefferson used these Enlightenment political ideas to justify revolution.
