This peaceful demonstration in favor of voting rights for women occurred in Brooklyn, New York, in 1920. Later that year, women’s suffrage became law when Tennessee became the thirty-sixth state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. American women had sought the right to vote since at least the 1840s.
